Off Highway Vehicles (OHV)

The Off-Highway Vehicle system on the Dixie National National Forest is one of the most unique in Southern Utah. A variety of experiences and a large number of miles are available for 4-wheel driving, ATV, UTV and motorcycle use.

FYI:

The Dixie National Forest has a new Motorized Travel Plan.  This plan establishes a system of approximately 2,700 miles of designated motorized travel routes and prohibits cross-country (off-trail) motorized travel.  These changes and updates are shown on the official Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM).

Why The Need for Designated Areas?

Over the past few decades, the availability and capability of OHVs has increased tremendously. That’s a good thing. More Americans are enjoying access and recreational opportunities on their national forests and grasslands, in keeping with the Forest Service’s multiple use mandate. However, the increase in OHV use also affects soil, water, wildlife habitat, and other recreational visitors. Today unmanaged recreation, including impacts from off-highway vehicles, represents one of the threats facing the nation’s forests and grasslands.

Don't worry, YOU CAN STILL GET THERE FROM HERE!

Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM)

  • The Motor Vehicle Use Map provides information on other travel rules and regulations. Routes not shown on the Motor Vehicle Use Map are not open to public motor vehicle travel. Routes designated for motorized use may not always be signed on the ground, but will be identified on the Motor Vehicle Use Map. It will be the public's responsibility to refer to the Motor Vehicle Use Map to determine designated routes for motor vehicle use.
