The Summit Trail traverses the entire length of the Pine Valley Mountains. The trail starts at the Paradise Trailhead near Pinto, UT and ends at the intersection with Forsyth Trail and Blake-Gubler Trail. The trail is mainly used as a connector for backpackers and hikers looking for longer loops. The trail is rarely hiked from point to point, end to end. The trail goes from 6500 ft to just over 10,000 ft traversing many ecosystems along the way. There are areas of high desert common to the Colorado Plateau, aspen groves, Ponderosa Pine stands, and mixed conifer forest. There are spectacular views of Kolob Canyons, Hurricane Valley, Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, and Snow Canyon State Park, depending which part of the trail you are on. There are periods of steep climbs, rocky descents, and easy open meadows, this trail has it all. Most of this trail is located within the wilderness area so there are minimal signs posted. Download or carry a map to be sure to stay on course. There are cairns and tree blazes throughout to aid in your navigation. Be sure to preserve wilderness characteristics for all visitors as you recreate.
