Food and Refuse Storage Restrictions

 

A. PROHIBITIONS

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), the following acts are prohibited in the campgrounds and area as described in this order, in the Bridgeport Ranger District, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest beginning August 22, 2009 at 12:01 A.M. and ending when this Order is rescinded.

-Virginia Creek Dispersed Campground, along Forest Road 139

-Trumbull Campground

-Buckeye Campground

-Honeymoon Flat Campground

-Crags Campground

  1. Possessing or storing any food or refuse, unless stored in the government provided container designed to prevent access by bears, in the Campground listed below.

-Robinson Creek Campground

-Paha Campground

-Lower Twin Lakes Campground

 

B. EXEMPTIONS

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), each of the following is exempt from this order.

  1. Persons with a permit specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order.
    1. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

C. AREA DESCRIBED

The Campgrounds and dispersed camping areas along Forest Road 139 as listed above in A. Prohibitions, on the Bridgeport Ranger District, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. As shown on Exhibit A, Map, and incorporated as part of this ORDER.

 

D. PURPOSE

The purpose of this order is for Public Health and Safety, the protection of Wildlife, and to reduce the numbers of Bear incidents relating to human uses in specified areas on the Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

 

E. IMPLEMENTATION

  1. This Special Order implementing Food and Refuse Storage Restrictions is effective at 12:01

    A.M. on August 22, 2009, and shall remain in effect until rescinded.

  2. Exhibit A, Map, Exhibit B, Definitions are attached and incorporated into this ORDER.

     

Violation of these prohibitions is punishable as a class B misdemeanor, by a fine of not more than $5000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for an organization and/or imprisonment of not more than 6 months [Title 16 USC 551, 18 USC 3571(b)(6), Title 18

USC 3581 (b)(7)].
