The Bridgeport Ranger District office is located in Bridgeport (pop. 553), California. The District lies in four counties including Douglas, Lyon, and Mineral in Nevada and Mono in California. The Bridgeport Ranger District is over one million acres in both Nevada (637,654) and California (375,721).

The District is known for being a popular recreation spot in the Eastern Sierra Nevada and western Great Basin, since it borders the Yosemite National Park. Rising from the Great Basin to the crest of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the District includes breathtaking vistas of vast landscapes in both California and Nevada. Elevations on the District range from 4,500 feet at Wilson Canyon to 12,370 feet at Dunderberg Peak, which is the highest point on the Forest. The District spans five mountain ranges and features alpine lakes, rugged backcountry, and beautiful meadows. Vegetation ranges from high alpine plant communities to salt desert flats.
