DAVIS COUNTY FIRE RESTRICTION SPECIAL ORDER OF FOREST SUPERVISOR WASATCH-CACHE NATIONAL FOREST

SALT LAKE RANGER DISTRICT

The purpose of this order it to protect public health, well-being and safety.

 

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 (a) and (b), and in addition to the General

Prohibitions, the following acts are prohibited on the area described below and as shown on the attached map. All lands affected are located on the Salt Lake Ranger District, Wasatch-Cache National Forest. This order in effect until further notice.

  1. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire of any king, including open flame, smoldering, or fueled by any other hea_tsource used for cooking, pe sonal warmth, lighting, ceremonial, esthetic purposes, or other, from April 1 through October 31 annually.[36 CFR 261.52 (a)]

 

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 (e), the following acts, or persons, are exempt from this order:

 

  1. Persons with a permit or contract authorizing the otherwise prohibited act, issued by the District Ranger for a specified period/location.
  2. Authorized Federal, State, or local officers, or active members of an organized rescue or firefighting force when necessary in the performance of official duty.
  3. Persons using portable gas stoves, lanterns, or tent heaters which use gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel either outdoors or within a building, mobile home, an enclosed recreational vehicle, or tent, unless otherwise posted as closed to such use.
  4. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire within a permanent facility constructed by and/or administered by the USDA Forest Service within open developed campgrounds, picnic areas, or administrative sites, unless otherwise posted as closed to such use.

 

Area Described: All National Forest System lands located along the Wasatch Front foothills within Davis County that are on or below the 5,200 foot elevation (the approximate "high water" mark or "bench" of the old Lake Bonneville Shoreline, or within½ mile of any residential structure on or east of that bench, between th_Davis/Weber County line and the Davis/Salt Lake County line, as shown on the attached map.

Violation of this prohibition is punishable by fine of not more than

$5,000 or imprisonment of not more than 6 months or both (16 USC 551; 18 USC 3571 (b) (6).
