Eldorado National Forest Mormon Emigrant Trail Winter Vehicle Use Road Closure
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(b), and to provide for public safety, the following act is prohibited within the Eldorado National Forest. This Order is effective from April 26, 2024, through April 25, 2026. For the purposes of this Order, a wheelchair is not considered to be a vehicle.
- Using a motor vehicle on the Mormon Emigrant Trail (Forest Road No. 10N50) starting from its intersection with El Dorado County Road 91 to its intersection with Forest Road No. 9N20 wherever snow covers the road, as shown on Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. § 261.54(a).
Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Persons using a snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle or recreational off-highway vehicle, as defined in California Vehicle Code Sections 557, 111 and 500.
- Persons using a tracked vehicle or highway-legal 4-wheel drive passenger vehicle, as defined in California Vehicle Code Section 465.
- Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 C.F.R. 261, Subpart A. A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571 and 3581.
