MAMMOTH MILL SITE AREA AND TRAIL CLOSURE
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Inyo National Forest. This Order is effective from June 18, 2024, through June 15, 2026.
- Entering or being in the Mammoth Mill Site Closure Area: The boundary of the Mammoth Mill Site Closure Area begins at the intersection of Old Mammoth Road and the entrance to the Mammoth Community Water Tank (latitude 37.62289444, longitude - 118.99420556), then continues southeast along the western boundary of Old Mammoth Road, until the road makes a hairpin turn to the southwest at 37.61902, longitude 118.99372, then continues due west 610 feet to latitude 37.61902, longitude -118.99587, then continues due north 860 feet to latitude 37.62138, longitude -118.99582, then continues due east 412 feet to latitude 37.62138, longitude -118.9944, then continues due north 500 feet to latitude 37.622714, longitude -118.9944, then continues northeast 90 feet back to the starting point, as shown on Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e).
- Being on the Mammoth Stamp Mill Trail (Forest Trail No. 2715), as shown on Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. § 261.55(a).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Persons with an approved Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A.
A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
