Off Highway Vehicles (OHV)

The Klamath National Forest has over 2,800 miles of Forest Service road and trail open to off-highway vehicles (OHVs).  Free Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUMs) are available to show what routes are open to highway legal vehicles, what routes are open to OHVs, and what routes are open to all vehicles.  The maps are available at our offices and online here

The Forest Service also has an online Interactive Travel Map to help you understand where you can legally enjoy travel opportunities in the Klamath National Forest.  Zoom in to northern California to find the Klamath National Forest.  This online service does not replace the MVUMs.

Free dispersed camping is allowed along roads and trails open to OHVs on Klamath National Forest land.  Motor vehicles may be parked up to 30 feet from the edge of the road surface when it is safe to do so without causing damage to natural resources or facilities, unless prohibited by state law, a traffic sign, or an order (36 CFR 261.54).  Campground roads, however, are closed to OHV use.

There are two designated OHV areas on the Forest: Juniper Flat and Humbug.  Camping is allowed at Humbug but Juniper Flat is day-use only.
