Dome Springs Campground

Dry Canyon Area, Roads and Trails, and Wilderness Closure

Effective: March 1, 2023, through February 28, 2025

The Dry Canyon area on the Mt. Pinos Ranger District is temporarily closed effective March 1, 2023 for public safety. Forest Service law enforcement officers will strictly enforce the closure order, which carries a penalty of $5,000 and/or six months in jail.

This forest closure order will be in effect through February 28, 2025, and specifically prohibits hunting, OHV use, hiking and camping in the Dry Canyon area.

The closure area includes the Dome Springs Campground, Dome Springs Road (8N40), Dry Canyon Trails 22W10, 22W11, and 22W13, and a portion of the Chumash Wilderness lying immediately north and northeast of Dry Canyon.

Badlands terrain, Pinyon Pines shaded camp. Sandy access road, 4-wheel-drive may be needed.

No motorized vehicles or bicycle use in Chumash Wilderness

Directions

Travel on Lockwood-Ozena Road approximately seven miles east of State Highway 33. Travel north for three miles on dirt access Forest Road 8N40.
