Trail 3 on Grindstone closed due to slide
Trail 85303 (Trail 3) on the Grindstone Ranger District closed due to landslide: Trail 85303 is closed between Trail 85304 and M5 Road for public safety and to protect natural resources. Unstable soil, downed trees and a steep drop off make this trail unsafe for users. The landslide covers about 200 feet of the trail. The closure remains in effect until the slide is cleared and the trail stabilized, or the trail is rerouted.

Forest Order
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C § 551 and 36 C.F.R § 261.50(b), and to provide for public safety and protect natural resources, the following act is prohibited within the Mendocino National Forest. This Order is effective from February 7, 2025, through February 7, 2026.
Being on National Forest System Trail No. 85303, between National Forest System Trail No. 85304 and the M5 road, as shown on the map attached as Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. § 261.55(a).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
- Persons with a Forest Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order, Form FS-7700-48, specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order.
This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions found in 36 C.F.R Part 261, Subpart A.
A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual, or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both.
