Hazard Trees

Resources

Providing support and guidance on hazard tree issues is an integral part of the Forest Health Protection program at each of the four FHP Shared Service Area offices in Region 5. Guidance from the R5 Regional Pesticide Use Specialist is crucial as well. Assistance to our partners takes many forms, including:

  • Providing guidance in hazard tree identification and assessment procedures and vegetation management in developed recreation areas and along National Forest system roads.
  • Providing training and “train the trainer” opportunities in hazard tree identification and management.
  • Assisting and supporting the development and implementation of vegetation management plans for developed recreation areas.
  • Monitoring developed recreation areas for tree hazard.
  • Educating Forest Service personnel on the Regional direction for application of borate fungicide on stumps to prevent Heterobasidion root disease
  • Providing assistance to Forest Service law enforcement and the Office of General Council in the investigation and litigation of incidents associated with tree failures.
  • Assisting with the deployment of local hazard tree databases
