Suppression repair operations to begin on the Mad River Ranger District
Mad River, CA., July 9, 2024— Suppression repair operations are scheduled to begin this week on the Mad River Ranger District within the area of the South Fork Complex. Operations may include the use of an air curtain burner to burn slash produced by the fire and suppression operations if conditions allow. In addition, crews will work to repair off-highway vehicle trails and surfacing on Forest Route 1 that were impacted by suppression operations.
An air curtain burner’s primary function is to serve as a pollution control device that reduces emission from burn piles by 80 percent. The air curtain burner can consume up 7 tons of fuel per hour increasing efficiency and reducing smoke impacts to the local communities.
