Wyeth Access Road Reconstruction

The Deschutes National Forest recently completed a multi-phase reconstruction and enhancement project for the Wyeth Boat Launch, entrance road and parking areas. The Great American Outdoors Act funded the reconstruction of the access road into Wyeth Campground and Boat Launch. The Wyeth Boat Launch provides river access to a diverse group of users, including anglers, paddlers, floaters and kayakers.

• Improves Visitor Experience The Wyeth Boat Launch and Campground provide popular river access to a diverse group of recreationists including anglers, paddlers, floaters and kayakers. The access road into the facility had significantly degraded. The reconstructed road access provides a driving surface suitable for recreationists towing boats or camping trailers.
• Economic Benefits Recreation is a key economic contributor to Central Oregon’s economy. Several local organizations supported this project as they directly value the viability of this location for recreation access.

Deferred Maintenance Eliminated: $74,340

Leveraging Partners

Funding for the comprehensive Wyeth Boat Ramp replacement project came from a variety of sources. The Oregon State Marine Board provided grant funding through the “Waterway Access Grant” program, which reinvests money collected through the Waterway Access Permit for non-motorized boats over 10 feet in length. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife provided funding through the “Restoration and Enhancement Program,” which uses funds collected from angling licenses to improve Oregon fisheries and increase recreational fishing opportunities. Vista Recreation, the Deschutes National Forest’s campground concessionaire, provided financial support for some of the permitting and streambank restoration work.
