Firefighters finding success in suppressing new fires on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest

Vancouver, WA (July 31, 2025) — Six lightening fires and one human caused fire have been located since Tuesday, July 29, 2025 on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. All the fires have remained small. Firefighters have made significant progress in suppressing all seven fires. Helicopters have been providing water drops throughout this effort. 

No closures or evacuations are in place at this time.

Cowlitz Valley Ranger District

Cowlitz Valley Ranger District has two fires, Midway Fire and Cody Fire.

Cody Fire is located a mile northeast of Cody Horse Camp. The fire is one acre, is lined and is in mop up phase. 

The largest fire, Midway is 10 acres. Midway Fire is located off of Rd 56 near the Cispus River which affords ample water to assist in the fire suppression. Firefighters are using Orr Creek Sno-Park and Cody Horse Camp for staging. For firefighter safety, drivers are asked to minimize their travel in that area and drive slowly when they do enter the area.

Mt. Adams Ranger District

Mt. Adams Ranger District has 4 fires.

All 4 fires are located northwest of Mt Adams ranging in size from 0.1 acre to 3 acres. In addition to local firefighters, firefighters from the Willamette National Forest, Jacob’s Creek Job Corp (Tennessee) and teams of helicopter repellers are assisting. One of these 4 fires, Lewis Fire, is already in contained status.

Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and District

The Siouxon Creek Fire is located off Rd 57 and is 2 acres. A water tender has been shuttling water for firefighters. The fire is contained and working toward control status.
