Trailhead: Blue Lake (Mt St Helens)

Provides access to: Blue Lake, the Toutle Trail #238, and the Blue Lake Trail #237. Access from Forest Road 8123. The road is washed out about 2 miles in; visitors must park at this location.

03/04/2025: Forest Road 8123 is snow-covered and not accessible. Site is usually snow-free in June.

Horses are prohibited on:

  • Toutle Trail #238 north of the Sheep Canyon Trail #240 intersection
  • Sheep Canyon Trail #240 east of the Toutle Trail #238
  • Butte Camp Trail #238A

Getting There

Directions

From Woodland, WA take state Route 503 east for approximately 28 miles to Forest Road 81. Take a left on Forest Road 81 towards Kalama Horse Camp Recreation Area. Follow Forest Road 81 north for approximately 12 miles to Forest Road 8123. Continue on Forest Road 8123 until it ends at Blue Lake trailhead.

Very limited parking; parking conditions may be difficult for low-clearance or 2WD vehicles.

Horse/Pack animals are not allowed at this site.

Trailhead is not appropriate for horse trailers; there is no turnaround.
