Austin Pass Picnic Area

Located in Heather Meadows, this picnic area provides views of mountains, sub-alpine vegetation and occasional wildlife. Parking is abundant and includes spaces for large busses and RVs. The Heather Meadows Visitor Center and hiking trails for all abilities can be accessed from the picnic area.

General Information

Black bears frequent the area. Food and scented items need to be stored in a secure manner. Bear-proof garbage cans are located in the parking area.

Day Use Only

Recreation Passes may be used as a form of fee payment. 

No camping. No fires, except self-contained, carry-in devices such as stoves or charcoal grills. No snowmobiles. Dogs must be leashed within the developed recreation area of Heather Meadows.

$5 per vehicle per day
$30 per annual

Directions

From Glacier, travel 22.3 miles east on the Mt. Baker Highway SR 542. The picnic area is located on the northwest side of the highway near mile post 55. Turn right at the Austin Pass Picnic Area sign, and then right again for closest parking to the tables.
