Wildfire Risk Reduction

The Forest Service launched a robust strategy to address the wildfire crisis in the places where it poses the most immediate threats to communities. In 2023 & 2024, the Mt. Hood received a combined $10 million to help safeguard communities, increase fuels treatments, and support post-fire restoration.

Creating fire resilient forests and communities

Wildfire doesn't respect property boundaries, so we work across the landscape to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires to forests, grasslands, fields, and communities. Together with over 20 partners and including community input, the Forest developed the Mt. Hood Area All-Lands Strategic Action Plan to Reduce Wildfire Risk. This plan is a multi-agency effort that will cooperatively guide wildfire land management in the Mt. Hood region over the coming years.
