Salmon River West Trailhead
This trail accesses the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness and travels through mossy old-growth forest next to the wild and scenic Salmon River. Chinook and Coho salmon, along with steelhead, rainbow and cutthroat trout, are found in the river. There are several established dispersed campsites along the way making this trail an excellent choice for backpacking. The Salmon River West Trailhead is the primary access point to the Salmon River Trail.

Amenities: Picnic table, toilet, interpretive sign, & garbage can from May 1 - October 31. Parking available for roughly 10 medium-sized vehicles.

Federal Recreation Passes required as a form of fee payment.
Wilderness restrictions apply in Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. Please practice leave no trace principles - pack out everything you packed in!

Oregon State Sno-Park Permit required November 01 - April 30:
$4 per vehicle per day
$9 per three day (consecutive)
$25 per annual

Directions
From Welches: Turn right (south) on Salmon River Rd. and follow it for 5 miles to the parking area. The Salmon River West trailhead is on the left (east) side of the road just north of the bridge.
