Turkey Tail

July 15, 2021. Due to wildfire activity within proximity of the proposed Turkey Tail Project, the Umatilla National Forest has canceled the public field trip scheduled for July 29, 2021. The Turkey Tail Project planning team will reassess current vegetation conditions after the fire to identify a path forward for this project. About the project: The Forest Service is considering ways to improve forest health and resilience to insects, diseases, and wildfire in the Turkey Tail project area. In 2020, Forest Service forest health staff assessed the Turkey Tail area and found overly dense stands as well as a steady uptick in fir engraver damage. The Forest Service is considering stand management options designed to reduce competition-induced moisture stress, improve long-term stand vigor, and increase resistance to insect and disease attacks, and wildfire.
