Timber Sales
Just as the technology of communication has changed considerably in the past few years, the management of timber resources has undergone a significant evolution as well. Environmental Analysis, site specific project planning, contract/project development, project implementation, and contract administration are tightly woven together to assure the benefits we receive from forest products are consistent with sound forest management practices that will carry our forests into the future.
Improving forest health is on the forefront of management strategies developed by the Umatilla National Forest. Decreasing stocking density, promoting uneven-aged stands, reducing fuel loadings (particularly near public and private developments, in stands stressed by insects and disease, and where fire danger is abnormally high), and preserving historic dry site ecosystems are all objectives that can use carefully planned commercial timber harvest as an effective tool for developing healthier forest conditions. All Umatilla National Forest timber sales currently proposed are designed to enhance forest health and reduce hazards along roadways.
