About the Area

El Yunque National Forest stretches across eight municipalities in northeastern Puerto Rico that total just over 75 270 ha (186,000 acres). At 11 540 ha (28,516 acres), El Yunque comprises about 15% of their combined area. Other protected areas in the region account for 4157 ha (10,273 acres), 5.5% of the total area. From beaches to nature reserves covering a range of ecosystems there are many places to explore in the eastern region of Puerto Rico.

El Bosque Nacional El Yunque se extiende a través de ocho municipios del noreste de Puerto Rico los cuales cubren un total de 75 270 ha (186,000 acres) de terreno. El Yunque acapara 11 540 ha (28,516 acres), el 15% del área total de la región. Otras áreas protegidas en esta región abarcan 4157 ha (10, 273 acres) o el 5.5% del área total. Desde playas hasta reservas naturales que cubren una variedad de ecosistemas, hay muchos lugares para explorar en la región noreste de Puerto Rico.
