  • Risks of using unauthorized transport

El Yunque National Forest's recreational corridor and El Portal visitor center, both located on PR 191 N in Rio Grande, are not pick-up points for rideshare mobile apps. Although users can mark both locations when choosing their destination when requesting service through the app to get a ride to the forest, the driver will only be able to go as far as the entrance. However, we often encounter the situation where, upon requesting to be picked up, the app does not allow visitors to be picked up at these points, forcing them to walk long distances to reach a valid pick-up point.

We urge the public to use authorized transportation during their visit. Authorized transportation in El Yunque includes private vehicles, rented vehicles, cabs with permits to operate in the forest, and authorized tourism and transportation service providers.

Keep in mind that there are cab drivers that can operate in the forest and offer such service, but not all cab drivers have a permit. Therefore, it is important to ask before hiring any transportation service.
