Do You Need a Permit?

YES - you DO need a permit:

  • to collect fuelwood.
  • for commercial and non-commercial use of NFS lands, including:
    • Easements for electrical and utility lines
    • Roads to access private property bound by National Forest lands
    • Oil and gas pipelines, wells or holding tanks, etc.
    • Minerals

NO - you DO NOT need a permit:

  • to gather edible material (morels, etc.) for your own consumption.
  • to build a campfire on National Forest System lands using a reasonable quantity of wood you collect without a firewood permit.

Obtain a commercial permit for events, commercial photography, filming, sound recording, outfitting and guides, and road use permits across NFS land to access private property.

ATV/OHV/OHM Permits

Anyone who rides a motorized vehicle on the ANF designated motorized trail system is required to purchase an ATV/Trail permit.
