RHINELANDER, Wis., September 27, 2024 The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will be starting road reconstruction work on Forest Road 238/Cherryville Road, in the Town of Barksdale, Bayfield County, Wisconsin. Work will begin on Monday, September 30, 2024, and continue until freeze-up. Work will start at Forest Road 236/Ino Road, and end at Forest Road 431. Gravel surfacing will be placed, and five cross-drain culverts will be installed. The road will remain open to the public during construction. Expect delays between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Alternate routes are suggested during these times.

A map of the area is provided for clarity. USDA Forest Service Motor Vehicle Use Maps are available online for visitors to reference to identify alternative routes. The maps are located online. During reconstruction of this section of road, USDA Forest Service officials encourage travelers to bring along a paper map or other navigational resource, and plan for extra time that might be needed.

Exemptions to any prohibited motorized activity include any federal, state, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty and persons with a special use authorization or other USDA Forest Service authorization specifically exempting them from the effect of the closure.
