Recreation
The Forest Service waives recreation fees at most day-use sites on lands managed by the agency. Participation by concession-operated sites may vary. The 2026 dates are:

Know Before You Go
Canine Camper
Dogs are welcome on the Huron-Manistee National Forests (HMNFs), given that applicable rules are followed and proper etiquette is practiced. Observing these rules and recommendations on this page will ensure that you and other forest visitors have a safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation experience.
The Baldwin/White Cloud Ranger District covers the southern half of the Manistee National Forest and manages the Pere Marquette National Scenic River and White National Sce
The Cadillac/Manistee Ranger District covers the northern half of the Manistee National Forest and manages the Manistee and Pine National Scenic Rivers.
The Huron Shores Ranger District Manages Lumberman's Monument, River Road National Scenic Byway, and the Au Sable River from 4001 Bridge to Lake Huron.
The Mio Ranger District manages the section of the Au Sable River designated as a National Wild and Scenic River.
The Au Sable National Scenic River, is a 23-mile portion of the Au Sable River that stretches from Mio to Alcona Pond.
This section provides motorboat opportunities with a lake fishing atmosphere.
The Hungerford Recreation Area is a nonmotorized area consisting of over 6,500 acres of National Forest System lands.
The Mack Lake and Meadows Trail Systems traverse the western portion of the Huron National Forest, creating a 158.6 mile trail with 13 trailheads.
The Little Manistee River offers many opportunities for steelhead and trout fishing.
There are several motorized trails on the Manistee portion of the forests, including a section of the MCCCT.
