Whelan Lake Area

This area is popular for canoeing, fishing and camping. The camping area is near the south branch of the Pere Marquette River, on Whelan Lake.  The land surrounding the lake is primarily federal ownership.

  • The camping area is not gated during the off season.
  • The camping area is not maintained in winter:
    • Access road and/or parking lot are not plowed.
    • Toilet facilities are not available.

Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week unless otherwise posted.

Special Use Permit - 

  • No special use permit is required for individuals or small groups (74 people or less).
  • Permits are required for commercial, event or large groups (75 people or more).

Getting There

Directions

From Baldwin -

  • Travel west on 56th St. for 13.5 miles.
  • Turn right and travel north on Walhalla Rd. for 1.25 miles.
  • Turn right and travel west on FR 6661 for 2.25 miles.
  • The campground is located on the left side of the road.
