Outfitter Guide Permits

Opportunities for new outfitting and guiding services:

Alaska's National Forests have much to offer locals and visitors throughout the year. Hiking, fishing, kayaking, skiing and so much more await those seeking adventure. Outfitters and guides play a vital role in helping provide these experiences and fulfill the agency's mission - caring for the land and serving people.

A special use permit is required in advance of operating on the National Forest System lands. The Forest Service regulates outfitting and guiding operations to provide safe condition for the public and to protect natural resources. Permit holders are authorized to conduct business in specific forest areas, with an approved operating plan, and a required to provide proof of liability insurance.

It is the outfitter or guide's responsibility to verify land ownership and obtain proper authorization for use. Outfitting and guiding without a special use permit is prohibited.

Unsolicited proposals

Once finalized, the Chugach National Forest 2026 timelines for the submission of unsolicited new applications and proposals, or requests to modify existing outfitter/guide permits will be posted.
