Black Bear Campground

Current Conditions
Black Bear Campground is located roughly 4 miles from a potential Portage Lake landslide. At this time, there is no indication that a landslide is imminent. However, landslides can happen at any time, and a sudden collapse into the water could trigger a tsunami that could have devastating effects to the Visitor Center. All Portage Valley recreationists should remain vigilant and be prepared to evacuate immediately. Black Bear is a small loop campground with 12 sites suitable for tents along Williwaw Creek. RVs are not recommended.

Located on site are vault toilets, a hand driven water pump, a dumpster, picnic tables, fire rings, and bear lockers. It is located on the south side of Portage Glacier Road.

Reservations

This location is available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Visitors are required to physically arrive at the campground to purchase and claim a site.

Late spring to early fall

Campgrounds are generally open mid-May to September 30th.

Overnight Use:
Single Site: $14 per night

$19/night. No advance reservations. There is a pay station at the entrance to the campground.
