Crescent Saddle Cabin

A 12 x 14-foot rustic cabin overlooking the southern shore of Crescent Lake. The surrounding area is near the tree line with views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

This cabin sleeps 6 and has a table, wood stove, splitting maul, crosscut saw, outhouse, and rowboat with oars.

Not included: running water, electricity, mattress or bedding, cooking utensils, or cut firewood.

Current Conditions
Extreme snow avalanche danger on Crescent Creek Trail in winter and early spring. For winter access to the cabin use the Carter Lake Trail and traverse across the southern side of frozen Crescent Lake. Avoid the area during extreme avalanche hazard. The primitive trail around Crescent Lake crosses several avalanche chutes and should not be used in the winter. Visit the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Information Center website for the most current avalanche forecast.

Visit recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 (overseas: 518-885-3639) to check availability and make a reservation. Cabin reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance. Cabin check-in and check-out time is 12 p.m. 

General Information

Inclement weather may cause an unexpected extension of the trip. Bring extra supplies to last 2-5 days. High winds may sweep across the lake causing danger for small boats. Bring life vests as they are not provided by the Forest Service. Boil surface water for 5 minutes before drinking. Remember to pack out your trash. You can contact a U.S. Forest Service office to receive more detailed information on safety precautions.

Crescent Saddle Cabin is available for reservations year-round.

Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year-round. Check-in/Check-out time is 12pm.

Fishing permit is required. Visit the Alaska Department of Fish & Game's website for regulations and permits.

Trails are closed to motorized use May 1- November 30. Trails are closed to pack/saddle stock April 1- June 30. Crescent Lake Trail not recommended for horses and bicycles.

Per night prices range from $50-60 depending on season. Cabin fees are based on non-peak/peak season. Seasons vary by cabin. A non-refundable service fee will be added to each reservation by Recreation.gov

Directions

Crescent Saddle Cabin is on Crescent Lake Trail. It is a 7-mile hike via Carter Lake Trail and an 11-mile hike via Crescent Creek Trail. Winter access is via Carter Lake Trail and the frozen surface of Crescent Lake. This cabin can be accessed by hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, and float plane.
