Double Bay Cabin

Current Conditions
This cabin is located on Hinchinbrook Island, an extremely remote and wild area. Before making a reservation, be aware of bear, water, and weather safety (including cold). Inclement weather may cause an unexpected extension of the trip. Bringing extra supplies (2-5 days) and a cooking stove is recommended. Boil surface water for 5 minutes before drinking. Remember to pack out your trash. You can contact a U.S. Forest Service office to receive more detailed information on safety precautions.

A 12 x 14-foot rustic cabin that accommodates up to 6 people. Cabin amenities include a table, wood stove, oil stove, splitting maul, saw, rainwater catchment barrel and an outhouse.

Visit recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777 (overseas: 518-885-3639) to check availability and make a reservation. Cabin reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance.

General Information

Water recreation, such as kayaking, is a popular activity for visitors to this cabin. However, lifejackets are not provided onsite so be sure to bring your own.

Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year-round. Check-in/Check-out time is 12pm.

A permit is required to hunt and fish at the Double Bay Cabin. Visit the Alaska Department of Fish & Game's website to review hunting and fishing regulations.

Per night prices range from $50-60 depending on the season. Cabin fees are based on non-peak/peak season. Seasons vary by cabin. A non-refundable service fee will be added to each reservation by Recreation.gov

Directions

Double Bay Cabin is on the east side of Double Bay on Hinchinbrook Island. Visitors can reach the cabin from Cordova via a 20-minute floatplane flight or 35-mile boat ride at high tide.

Travel Considerations

Approaching the cabin via boat or plane may be difficult at low tide because of the shallow lagoon. Please consult local tide tables. Check the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's website for the latest tide predictions. Using an inflatable raft will make fishing access easier, however tides will affect boat use.
