Current Conditions
This cabin is located on Hinchinbrook Island, an extremely remote and wild area. Before making a reservation, be aware of bear, water, and weather safety. Inclement weather may cause an unexpected extension of the trip. Bringing extra supplies (2-5 days) and a cooking stove is recommended. Boil surface water for 5 minutes before drinking. There may be long periods of time between maintenance trips, and conditions on the ground may be different than expected as a result of storm damage or other circumstances. Please be aware of your surroundings and report any facility damages to Cordova Ranger District staff.

Recreation Opportunities

Fishing - River/Stream Info

Visitors to Hook Point Cabin can fish for pink salmon, coho salmon and cutthroat trout in a creek about a mile to the east. The runs are small but, in August, you can fish the high tide for salmon.

Note: Salmon fish counts are monitored throughout Alaska and determine the daily limits for sport, commercial and subsistence fishing. Anyone fishing in Alaska should be aware that the limits are subject to change and/or restriction depending on the fish count.

Emergency orders, often restricting the harvest of king salmon, can be issued at any time and have the same force and effect as law. Be sure to check the ADF&G's Emergency Order and Press Releases page prior to fishing.

Fishing - Lake & Pond Info

Further to the east of the fishing stream are some ponds where trout may be found. However, it has been noted, that this cabin is not ideal for fishing.

Boating - Motorized Info

Boaters should exercise caution and keep a lookout for uncharted rocks. And it is always a good idea to consult local tide tables and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's website for the most current tide predictions. Also, life jackets are not provided onsite so be sure to bring your own.
