Land & Resources Management

This section provides information on forest planning, current projects, resource management, and available geospatial data.

Planning

The Forest and Rangeland Renewable Resources Planning Act (RPA) as amended by the National Forest Management Act (NFMA) establishes a process for developing, amending and revising land management plans for National Forests.

The Planning page includes information about the Los Padres National Forest Land Management Plan and other planning activities.

Projects

Under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the environmental effects of a proposed activity on National Forest lands must first be analyzed, with opportunity for public comment, before a decision is made on whether or not to implement that activity. Scoping, an early and open process to involve the public and other agencies in identifying substantive issues associated with a proposal, is an integral part of the environmental analysis process.

The Projects page includes information about specific projects the Los Padres National Forest is evaluating, planning, or actively implementing. The Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) lists various projects under environmental review, the status of the project, and who to contact for more information. NEPA documents for select projects are also included by following the respective project link.

Resource Management

The Forest Service manages National Forest System lands to provide goods and services while protecting ecosystems of the forest. The following section highlights some of the important resources of the Los Padres National Forest and how they are being managed.

Geospatial Data

Geospatial data are georeferenced, or spatially explicit, digital files that can be used in GIS (Geographic Information System). The following page includes geospatial data for Pacific Southwest Region of the USFS, including the Los Padres National Forest.

Ecological Restoration Implementation Plan

In March 2011 the Pacific Southwest Region of the US Forest Service released a statement of its Leadership Intent for Ecological Restoration, which laid out the Region's guiding vision and goals for its stewardship of wildland and forests for the next 15-20 years. This plan reflects the Regional leadership's current thinking on how the Leadership Intent will be implemented.
