National Forests of the Trail

The Arizona National Scenic Trail travels through four forests in Arizona.

The AZNST also passes through land managed by the National Parks Service, Arizona State Parks, and Bureau of Land Management. If you are planning an extended trip, make sure you have the correct passes or permits.

The Coronado National Forest features the southern terminus of the AZNST. Travelers will weave through the "sky islands" of Southern Arizona, and even summit Tucson's Mount Lemmon.

When travelling south to north, the Tonto National Forest portion of the AZNST features a dramatic climb from the saguaro-spotted desert to the pined top of the Mogollon Rim.

Coconino National Forest

The Coconino National Forest portion of the AZNST features a dramatic changing landscape as travelers make their way from the top of the Mogollon Rim to Flagstaff and the San Francisco peaks.
