Be well informed and prepared for your next visit to the forest.

Before venturing out, contact the nearest Forest Service office for recent information on alerts, advisories, notices and closures.

To report an emergency, please call 911.

Forest Alerts

  • Trail 34 on Upper Lake District closed due to unsafe conditions

    OHV Trail 34 is closed due to trail tread degradation and rutting that runs 300 feet down the trail. The trail is unsafe due to unstable soil, extremely muddy conditions and increased runoff.

  • Trail 3 on Grindstone closed due to slide

    Trail 85303 (Trail 3) on the Grindstone Ranger District closed due to landslide: Trail 85303 is closed between Trail 85304 and M5 Road for public safety and to protect natural resources. Unstable soil, downed trees and a steep drop off make this trail unsafe for users.

  • Plaskett Meadows Campground Closure

    Plaskett Meadows Campground is closed for public safety, per Forest Order 08-24-14. Closure has been extended and is in effect through 10/31/25.

  • Lower Nye Campground Closure

    Lower Nye Campground is closed for public safety, per Forest Order 08-24-11. Closure is in effect through 6/1/2025.

  • Hammerhorn Campground Closure

    Hammerhorn Campground is closed for public safety, per Forest Order 08-24-12. Closure is in effect through 6/1/2025.

  • Cedar Camp Campground Closure

    Cedar Camp Campground is closed for public safety per Forest Order 08-24-10. Closure is in effect through 6/18/26.

  • Chico Seed Orchard Public Use and Access Closure

    Public use and access to Chico Seed Orchard:

  • Developed campground stay limits

    Developed campground camping stay limits are in effect across the Mendocino National Forest through Sunday, Oct. 10, 2025. Visitors may camp in the same developed recreation campground for 14 days within any 30-day period but no more than 28 cumulative days in any 12-month period.

  • Dispersed camping stay limits

    Dispersed camping stay limits are in effect across the Mendocino National Forest through Oct. 6, 2025. The stay limits apply to developed campgrounds and dispersed camping locations.
