Baker River Hotshots - Facilities
Where we call home
The Baker River Hotshot Crew is housed at the historic Koma Kulshan Guard Station at the foot of Mt. Baker near State Route 20. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the original structures in 1933. The compound has been used for district crews, a helitack crew and now serves solely as the crew’s base. A bunkhouse houses 15 crew members and has ample kitchen and living space. The compound includes a meeting and training building, a fire cache, a large saw, tool and wood shop and a weight training area.
The Baker Lake basin and surrounding forest and park land offer hiking, climbing, boating, fishing and skiing. Fire crew can train on running, biking and hiking routes nearby the guard station.
