Unadopted Devil’s Garden mares will return to territory Oct. 3

Fifty-three mares are scheduled for return to the Devil’s Garden Plateau Wild Horse Territory October 3. All released horses will receive fertility control limiting their ability to reproduce for up to two years.

The releases will occur at Emigrant Springs about seven miles north of Alturas. Two loads are planned with one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Folks wanting to view these releases should meet forest personnel at forest headquarters, 225 W. Eighth Street in Alturas, at 7:30 a.m. and/or 12 noon and follow them to the release site.
