Wild horse adoption update

The Modoc National Forest has placed more than 60 horses from the 2018 gather into good homes since mid-November, leaving less than 200 horses at the Double Devil Wild Horse Corrals near Alturas, Calif still in need of placement.

These horses are available for adoption and sale with limitations. The fee for purchase with limitations has been reduced to $1 per horse. The fee for adoption is $125. The time period for adoption and sales with limitations only has been extended to Feb. 18, 2019.

An “Online Adoption Event” is planned for Jan. 7-13, 2019. The new Online Corrals are currently under construction and will be rolled out to kick off that event. When complete, a link to the new Online Corrals will be found at https://go.usa.gov/xQ3r3. Adopters and buyers will be able to pick out their horse anytime during the event and will make appointments for pickup.

At times other than specific adoption events, adopter/purchaser viewing, selection and pickup opportunities are by appointment on Wednesdays and Fridays every week and the first Saturday of every month. Appointments must be confirmed at least seven days in advance after filling out the “Viewing and Pickup Scheduling” request form at https://go.usa.gov/xQ3r3 and submitting it to modoc_info@fs.fed.us leaving two business days for it to be confirmed.
