Fires, fallen trees, storms, construction, and changing seasons can all force closures in popular areas. At more than 1 million acres, conditions across Mt. Hood National Forest change day by day and hour by hour. Contact your local district office for more information on the status of recreation sites, road work and closures, and more current conditions.
Forest orders are generally temporary in nature and are listed under 36 CFR 261 Subpart B. Designed for public safety or natural resources protection, forest orders can prohibit entry to wildfire areas, implement camping limits, restrict access to watersheds, and more.

Clackamas River RD Fires
There is a fire closure in place surrounding the Austin and The Narrows Fires on the Clackamas River Ranger District. The order was updated Wednesday, September 16, 2026 and is in place for the safety of forest users & firefighting personnel as well as the protection of natural resources. -
Water unavailable at Cloud Cap until Sept. 30
Water at Cloud Cap Inn, Cloud Cap Saddle Campground, and Snowshoe Cabin will be unavailable from September 15 to 29 due to the construction of a new water system. People planning to camp at Cloud Cap or hike the Timberline Trail should plan accordingly and bring extra water. -
