Supervisor's Office and Grindstone Ranger District

The Mendocino National Forest Supervisor's Office and Grindstone Ranger District are headquartered at 825 N. Humboldt Ave, Willows, CA. The Forest Staff, the administrative branch, and Grindstone Staff are located at the Forest Supervisor's Office.

SCHOOLS: Willows has schools through all grades including Butte Community College extension courses.

MEDICAL SERVICES: Glenn General Hospital 1133 W. Sycamore (530) 934-6461 Glenn Family Medical Practice 130 N. Enright (530) 934-4681 This hospital includes an emergency room and clinic. The town of Chico (35 miles to the northeast), has two full service hospitals, urgent care centers, and numerous physicians in specialized areas.

RECREATION INFORMATION: The Willows area is famous for duck, pheasant, dove and quail hunting. Located eight miles south of Willows, is the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge that provides walking and auto tours - always a pleasant experience. California State University-Chico and Butte College offer many additional recreation attractions in sports and entertainment areas. There is a public swimming pool at the City Park on Laurel Street. Parks in Willows provide play equipment for children, baseball fields, horseshoe areas, picnic tables and barbecue pits. There is an exercising par-course at the park on Sycamore Street, tennis courts are available and a skate park. 

Annually in May, Willows holds a celebration called the "Lamb Derby" where a parade is held followed by a lamb barbecue at the park. Many other activities are scheduled during the week for wholesome family fun. In September, the Willows Chamber of Commerce hosts a Car Show, which encompasses a weekend of numerous activities, with approximately 400-600 cars on exhibit. There is a nine hole golf course located approximately five miles north of Willows. There is also Knowles Shooting Clays for the sporting clay enthusiast, which offers individual and competition for novelists as well as challenging courses for the professional.

Upper Lake Ranger District

The Upper Lake Ranger District is the southwestern district on the Mendocino. It is located 2 - 2 1/2 hours north of San Francisco and 1 1/2 hours from the heart of the Napa Valley Wine Country. The district is comprised of approximately 260,000 acres and offers boating, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities.

Covelo Ranger District

Covelo is nestled in Round Valley, 32 miles through the mountains off Highway 101 north of Willits, California. It is the headquarters for the Covelo Ranger District of the Mendocino National Forest.
