SOPA Reports

The Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) contains a list of proposed actions for Allegheny National Forest that will soon begin or are currently undergoing environmental analysis and documentation. It provides information so that you can become aware of and indicate your interest in specific proposals. We encourage your early and ongoing involvement in any proposals of interest to you.

Allegheny National Forest Projects

To remove an old bridge on an unnamed tributary to Bear Creek associated with an abandoned section of Highway 984 and restore the site.

Decommission structures at the vacated Hall estate, McLaughlin estate, and Jerko cabin on the Bradford Ranger District, properly dispose of materials and debris from site, and restore sites to more natural conditions.

Integrated Resource Project (invasives control, veg management, and wildlife, watershed and transportation system improvements)

Update and modernize the Dewdrop Recreation Area with a focus on the built environment (restrooms, shower buildings, etc.)

Large wood treatments are proposed along 65 miles of streams but would only occur where large woody debris is lacking and overstory trees are present in sufficient densities. Beaver dam analogs are also proposed along 7.8 miles of the 65 miles.

Forest is proposing to relocate 3.45 miles of snowmobile trail for the upcoming 2022-2023 snowmobile season due to access issues. Relocation of trail will use 1.35 miles of township and forest system roads and exisitng snowmobile/ATV trail.

Land management activities including vegetation management, stream and fisheries improvements, wildlife habitat improvements, invasive plant treatments, transportation management, and other activities to achieve desired conditions.

Treat invasive plants and interfering vegetation to conserve native plants, wildlife habitat, and desirable vegetation. Includes a Forest Plan amendment.

This project will repair and rehabilitate the Jakes Rocks Road and Day Use Recreation Site. The proposal includes reconstruction of Forest Road 492 (Jakes Rocks Road) and improvements to the Jakes Rocks day use site.

The proposed action includes timber harvesting, reforestation activities, prescribed burning, invasive plant treatments, wildlife habitat improvements, watershed improvements, and road construction, maintenance, and decommissioning.

Proposed management activities include vegetation treatments, timber harvesting, wildlife habitat improvements, aquatic habitat improvements, non-native invasive plant species treatments, and transportation activities.

Proposing to realign approximately 500 feet of trail to follow the natural contour of the slope instead of a steep downgrade and upgrade.

Proposing to restore the recently acquired Tract 992TK (Thomas Life Estate) in Warrant 4042, Millstone Township, Elk County, Pennsylvania to a more natural setting.

Make improvements to the water and wastewater systems for the Twin Lakes Recreation Area and construct/replace two fishing piers along Twin Lakes.

Proposed activities include tree harvesting and reforestation, non-native invasive plant treatments, wildlife habitat improvements, aquatic habitat and stream improvements, and transportation improvements.

Improve the Westline Ballfield site to limit resource damage, improve visitor experience, and designate and stabilize a driving surface including day use/overnight parking, vault toilet, native plant garden, trail to creek, and designated campsites.
