Wildland fire & fuels management program

Managing wildland fire and fuels across the landscape is an integral part of land and resource management on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. From wildfire response to manipulating fuels through prescribed fires or mechanical treatments, our fire and fuels management program is an essential part of our forest’s mission.

Our landscape

The size and location of our forest, straddling the Continental Divide in southwestern Montana, results in a significant variation in the composition and characteristics of the landscape. Even so, wildland fire has always played an important role in the health of our ecosystems.
