Fleecer Cabin

Located in the Fleecer Mountain Range, 15 miles south of Butte, this cabin was built in 1924 and has been used as headquarters for Forest Service crews since it was built. The cabin is available May 1st through January 2nd unless seasonal Forest Service crews are stationed at the cabin during the summer. Access to the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail is located one mile from the cabin. The cabin has electricity, water, and indoor bathroom, and heat. It consists of two bedrooms that will accommodate five people. A corral and pasture are adjacent to the cabin.

General Information

The cabin has electricity (lights, stove, and refrigerator), indoor plumbing (no hot water) and oil/wood heat. There are two bedrooms that will sleep five people (two bunk beds and a single bed). Horse facilities are available at the cabin.

The cabin is available for rent from May 1st through January 2nd.

The cabin is accessible by passenger vehicle during snow-free periods of the year. Depending on snow conditions you may require 4-wheel drive vehicle, snowmobile, snowshoe, or cross-country ski to access the cabin. During the winter months blowing and drifting snow can be expected, be prepared for difficult travel.

Staying at Fleecer Station provides you access to several recreational activities including bicycling, fishing, horseback riding and OHV trails. There are several motorized trails in the area that provide great mountain biking opportunities and approximately 40 miles of OHV trails in the Fleecer Mountains including portions of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. Maps are available at the Butte Ranger District. The cabin is also located within one mile of Divide Creek and north of the Big Hole River. To access the Big Hole Rive, drive 10 miles south on I-15 to the Divide exit and continue west on MT HWY 43. There are several day use access points along the river.

Directions

From Butte take I-15/I-90 west for approximately 7 miles. Merge onto I-15 south and continue for approximately 12 miles. Take Feely exit (no. 111) and drive west onto Forest Service road #96 (Divide Creek Road) for approximately 2.5 miles; turn left onto Forest Service road #447 and drive for one mile. As the road begins to climb, turn left and go down the hill to the gate. The cabin is located approximately 0.25 miles from the gate. Be sure to keep the gate closed during your stay. The road is a gravel road suitable for passenger vehicle access except during snow conditions.
