Hunters Spring Cabin

Hunters Spring provides a serene escape in the mountains of central Montana. It is a prime destination for hunting, snowmobiling and skiing enthusiasts.  Access in the winter is by snowmobile, skis or snowshoes only. The road is not plowed. A variety of horseback riding and hiking trails can be found nearby, and there are many trails for mountain bikers and off-road vehicle riders in the area.  Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling are popular in winter months.

The rustic two-story frame house sleeps up to eight guests in three roomy bedrooms. The kitchen is outfitted with a propane cook stove, refrigerator and a wood stove for heat. The dining room is furnished with a table and chairs. Firewood is provided for the wood stove and cooking pots and utensils are on hand in the kitchen. 

No water, electricity or sewer is provided. Guests should bring plenty of water, bedding, food, warm clothing, flashlights, matches, and other basic camping items.

No pets are allowed in the rental building at any time. Pets are to be leashed or kenneled outside of the rental building. Users are responsible in removing all pet food and droppings prior to departure.

Bears may frequent the area; keep all food out of sight in approved containers and remove all food from area after eating. Mandatory food storage is required.

The road to the cabin is not plowed in winter. Access is limited to snowmobile, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing to travel to the cabin during these months.

Overnight Use: $65/night.

Directions

From Harlowton go west 32 miles on U.S. Highway 12 to Forest Road 274 (Spring Creek Road).

Winter: Take Forest Road 274 to mile marker 7 (parking area) and park your vehicle. Proceed from parking area on Forest Road 274 another 6 miles by snowmobile or cross-country skis past Whitetail Camp to Forest Road 6429. Turn right and go 1/2 mile on Forest Road 6429 to Hunters Spring Guard Station.

Summer: Take Forest Road 274 13 miles past Whitetail Camp to Forest Road 6429. Turn right and drive 1/2 mile on Road 6429 to the cabin.

The gate on Road 6429 is locked with a combination lock with the same combination as the cabin.
