Recreation Region: Little Belt Mountains

Monument Peak Lookout

Looking to stay in an active fire lookout- a room with a view? Monument Peak Lookout is on the top of a mountain and has a spectacular view of the Little Belt Mountains. It was built in 1936 by the CCC and has been removed from its original tower and restored for the public.

The last 4 miles of road access are rough, and a high clearance vehicle is recommended.

There are good small and big game hunting opportunities in this area.

Pets are to be leashed or kenneled outside of the rental building. Users are responsible in removing all pet food and droppings prior to departure.

There is no water, electricity, or sewer in the cabin. The cabin is not accessible to the disabled. Bring your own bedding, flashlight, food, small propane cylinders and cooler. Firewood is not provided for the wood stove. Please plan on and provide your own wood. Very little firewood is available in the area. Visitors must clean the lookout and police the grounds prior to departure. (Occupants will be billed for damage or extra clean-up costs.) The shutters to expose and allow visibility through the windows are heavy and usually will take 2 individuals to lock the shutters open. Hardhats are available on site for safety purposes while opening the shutters.

Bears may frequent the area; keep all food out of sight in approved containers and remove all food from area after eating. Mandatory food storage is required.
