SPECIAL ORDER

WILDERNESS USE RESTRICTIONS

ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION

Pursuant to 36 CFR, Section 261.50(a) & (b), the following Act is prohibited within all National Forest Wilderness Areas of the Rocky Mountain Region, Forest Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture: 

     Possessing or using a wagon, cart, wheelbarrow, bicycle or other vehicle (including "game carts") (261.57[h]). 

Pursuant to 36 CFR, Section 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from the order: 

  1. Persons with a permit which authorizes the above prohibited activity.
  2. Persons with disabilities using assistive devices or aids, accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (PL 101-336). [An assistive device is a piece of equipment used by a person with a disability on a daily basis to help in the accomplishment of one of life's major functions or activities, such as a wheelchair. A wheelchair is defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act to be "a device designed solely for use by a mobility-impaired person for locomotion, that is suitable for use in an indoor pedestrian area" (Sec. 507(c)(2)).   3. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty. 

Violation of the above prohibited Act is punishable by a fine of not more than $5000 and/or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months (16 USC 551; PL 98-473).
