Winter Sports

Before you go, check out snow depth at the Snotel Information site and the local weather. It's also important to know the avalanche conditions, vist the National Avalanche Center to learn more. If you plan to ride the nearly 400 miles of snowmobile trails, visit the Wyoming State Trails site for maps and information.

Skiing/Snowboarding

There are two downhill areas that offer wonderful skiing and snowboarding experiences.

Snowmobiling

The Bighorn National Forest offers nearly 390 miles of snowmobile trails. Wyoming law requires that all snowmobiles have either a resident or nonresident user fee decal adhered to the machine. The snowmobile season is December 1 thru April 15. Our snowmobile trail system is maintained through cooperative efforts of the Wyoming Trails Program, the Bighorn National Forest and local snowmobile clubs. For more information about snowmobile trails, visit our partners with the Wyoming Trails Program.

XC Skiing/Snowshoeing

Nordic ski enthusiasts can escape to the Bighorn's six Nordic ski areas.  On the north end of the Bighorns, Sibley, Cutler, and Antelope Butte Nordic ski trails offer marked and groomed or packed trails with a range of difficulty levels.  On the south end of the Bighorns, Pole Creek and Willow Park also have marked and groomed or packed ski trails with a range of difficulty levels.  Powder Pass Area is a backcountry experience with no designated trails or maintenance provided. Visit our informational handouts for more details on each area and maps.
