Denny Creek Trailhead

Denny Creek Trailhead is a major access point to the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness area. The trail travels to Mt. Yale, Hartenstein Lake and Browns Pass. From the trailhead the trail travels northwest for about 1 mile then forks. The right-hard fork climbs another 4 miles to Mt. Yale. The left fork goes to Hartenstein Lake (2.3 miles from trailhead) or Browns Pass (3.2 miles from trailhead). The trail continues northeast towards Kroenke Lake and then descends into the North Cottonwood drainage.

Detailed maps of the area are available at the Salida Ranger District office. The area is covered by heavy snow from November until June.

General Information

Overnight camping is not permitted at the trailhead. Please sign the trail register before hiking into the wilderness.

Wilderness regulations apply within Collegiate Peaks Wilderness.

Directions

From Buena Vista, CO, travel west on County Road 306 (paved) for approximately 11 miles. The trailhead is located on the right hand side of the road.
