Buford/New Castle Motorized Trail
The District Ranger, Glenn R. Adams signed a decision notice and finding of no significant impact (FONSI) on June 13, 2012 approving the Buford New Castle Motorized Trail Project. The selected alternative includes improvements at the West Elk (winter) Trailhead, approximately eight miles of motorized ATV/UTV trail construction and access to popular dispersed campsites that parallel the NFSR 245 (Buford/New Castle Road) from the trailhead to Triangle Park. The 30-day comment period for this project ended on February 27, 2012. Since only supportive comments were received during the comment period, this decision is not subject to appeal (36 CFR 215.12).
