Swan Mountain Project

The USDA Forest Service is conducting an analysis of the Swan Mountain Project. The proposed action area of approximately 13,500 acres is located around Swan Mountain, Soda Creek, and the North Fork of the Swan River. This area, which is known for high recreation use, is adjacent to the communities of Dillon, Keystone and Breckenridge. The proposed action would implement fuels reduction, wildlife habitat improvements, stream improvement, transportation improvement and trail enhancements. Proposed projects include Fuels management vegetation treatments on approximately 1,733 acres, Fuels management and wildlife habitat vegetation treatments on approximately 38 acres. Fuels management and scenic integrity vegetation treatments on approximately 656 acres within 250 feet of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. Upgrading road infrastructure at an existing stream crossing in Soda Creek. Modification to the bed and banks of Soda Creek. Reroutes of the following trails: Soda Creek Trail #9014, Red Trail #9018, Campion Trail #9021, Horseshoe Gulch Trail #9131 Colorado Trail #1776, and Soda Mine Trail #9126. Realignment of FSR 94.1, including the decommissioning of the old roadbed.
