Stage 2 Fire Restrictions - Williams Ranger District
Due to increased fire danger and for public safety, the Kaibab National Forest will implement Stage 2 fire restrictions on the Williams Ranger District beginning 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 18.

KAIBAB NATIONAL FOREST STAGE II FIRE RESTRICTIONS
PROHIBITIONS
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a) and (b), the following acts are prohibited within all National Forest System lands as described in this Order (the "Restricted Area") and as depicted on the attached map, hereby incorporated into this Order as Exhibit A, within the Kaibab National Forest, Coconino and Yavapai counties, Arizona.
- Igniting, building, maintaining, or using a fire, including charcoal and briquettes. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(a).
- Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three (15) feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of any flammable material. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(d).
THE FOLLOWING ACTS ARE PROHIBITED FROM 9:00 A.M. TO 8:00 P.M.:
Operating a chainsaw or other equipment powered by an internal combustion engine for felling, bucking, skidding, processing, road building and woodcutting during industrial operations or firewood gathering capable of igniting a fire. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e).
Using an explosive. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(b).
- Welding, or operating any acetylene or other torch with an open flame. 36 C.F.R. § 61.52(h).
EXEMPTIONS
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. §261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from the provisions in this Order:
- Persons using a stove or grill that is solely fueled by pressurized liquid petroleum or pressurized liquid petroleum gas (LPG) fuels.
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of official duty.
- Persons operating within the Described Area pursuant to a Forest Service Timber Contract using Form No. FS-2400-3(S/T), FS-2400-6(T) or FS-2400-13(T). Such persons must follow contract provision No. C(T)7.22 Emergency Fire Precautions.
- Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order or a written determination by a Forest Service authorized officer that a permit is not required under 36 C.F.R. § 251.50(e)(1) or (2).
RESTRICTED AREA
All National Forest System lands, roads and trails within the exterior boundaries of the Williams Ranger District, Kaibab National Forest, as depicted on the attached map at Exhibit A.
PURPOSE
To reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires during periods of high fire danger and severe fire weather conditions.
IMPLEMENTATION
- This Order will be in effect at 6:00 pm June 18th 2025, and shall remain in effect until August 31, 2025 or until rescinded, whichever occurs first.
- A map identifying the Restricted Area is attached and made part of this Order as Exhibit A.
- is attached and incorporated into this Order.
- Any violation of this prohibition is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or by imprisonment for not more than six (6) months, or both (see 16 U.S.C. § 551, 18 U.S.C. § 3571(b)(6), 18 U.S.C. § 3581 (b)(7)).
